If you have a Windows computer
Before you begin make sure your computer is connected to UCSD-PROTECTED network. If its on UCSD-GUEST you will not be able to print.
Download and then run the Recommended software from this page (HP LaserJet Enterprise M607/M608/M609 Printer Full Software Solution)- https://support.hp.com/lt-en/drivers/hp-laserjet-enterprise-m609-series/9364931
Accept the license agreement.
The rest of the install options are up to you if you want to opt out or in, they should not affect the functionality of the printer.
Install using the wired network option.
The printer is already connected to an ethernet cable so you can next this step.
Give it the IP address 172.16.205.39, if it complains about device and printer being on separate networks you can just ignore that and click next.
You can skip the marketing question about where the printer will be used by just clicking next without answering it.
Print a test page and make sure it prints properly.
If you have a Apple computer
Before you begin make sure your computer is connected to UCSD-PROTECTED network. If its on UCSD-GUEST you will not be able to print.
Open System Preferences/Settings and search for printer and open Printers & Scanners then click on Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax.
Choose IP tab at the top of the window.
Change protocol drop down to HP JetDirect - Socket.
Enter 172.16.205.39 in the Address field, it will take a few seconds for the system to search for the printer.
Change the name field to something more descriptive like 8th Floor B&W Printer.
Verify that the Use: field says Generic PostScript Printer.
Click Add.
After adding click the printer listing in the System Preferences/Settings window and click Options & Supplies and then choose the Options tab at the top.
Enable Duplex Printing Unit and click ok, this will allow double sided printing.
Do a test print to make sure everything is working for you.
